Metrologic Enhances Hand-Held Product Line With Introduction of Fusion™
Blackwood, New Jersey – November 1, 2005 -- Metrologic Instruments, Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS:MTLG) today announced the introduction of the MS3780 Fusion, a new hand-held omnidirectional laser bar code scanner incorporating multi-functional scanning capabilities.

Incorporating the optical and electronic design found in Metrologic’s well-received Quantum line of products, Fusion is a hybrid scanner that functions in both hand-held and in-stand presentation modes with the addition of single-line capability. Fusion provides affordable, multi-functional scan performance in a form factor that is smaller and lighter than many traditional single-line hand-held scanners. In addition to excellent omnidirectional scanning, Fusion switches to a targeted single-line mode at the push of a button. Combining this single-line function with Metrologic’s patented CodeGate® technology gives cashiers control during menu scanning applications.

“Fusion is an extremely versatile scanner,” said Taylor Smith, Multi-Mode Scanner Product Manager for Metrologic. “It streamlines the checkout process by providing cashiers the ability to perform multiple functions with a single device. Hands-free scanning with the scanner placed in an adjustable stand allows customers to individually position the scanner for optimal comfort and performance. The ability to also use Fusion in a hand-held mode increases cashier mobility for faster scanning of bulky items that are not easily presented to countertop scanners. With an integrated electronic article surveillance antenna, bar code scanning and security tag deactivation are reduced to a single operator motion,” continued Smith.

According to Senior Vice President of Marketing, Mark Schmidt, “Fusion addresses a growing market demand in the retail market for hand-held scanners with increased functionality. Offering a feature set beyond that of single line hand-held scanners at a lower price than 2D imagers, Fusion provides high performance scanning at an affordable price.”

Fusion is an RoHS-compliant product. RoHS is the acronym assigned to a European Union initiative for the restriction of hazardous substances (RoHS) in electronic products. As of July 1, 2006, all products sold within countries adopting the directive must be compliant.

Fusion is the “heir apparent” to Metrologic’s MS6720 omnidirectional hand-held laser scanner. With over a quarter million units deployed since its introduction, the MS6720 has been a proven performer in the marketplace. Fusion, with its advance performance and extensive feature set, builds on the legacy of innovative technology and industry leading design of the MS6720.

Fusion will be introduced at the ScanChina trade show November 2-4, 2005 in Shanghai, China. It will also be shown at the upcoming National Association of Convenience Stores (NACS) Show from November 15-18, 2005 in Las Vegas, Nevada (USA). Fusion will be available for public sale in December.
